Chestnut Street Inn, Asheville, North Carolina
Chestnut Street Inn, c.1905, located in a national historic district near downtown Asheville, offers a restful and delightful "visit to Grandma's house." Besides enjoying the mountain air on two beautiful porches or joining other guests in the parlor for afternoon tea, one may want to take the five-minute walk downtown to explore the art galleries, antique shops, fine restaurants, and coffee bars.
The house itself features exceptional woodwork including mantles, wainscotting, and a closed stringer staircase. Antique furnishings, Victorian decor, together with fresh flowers and soft music combine to transport one to a more tranquil way of life.
Not to be missed are the gourmet, three-course breakfasts (different each morning of your visit.) Menu items include fresh-baked scones, apple bread, homemade jams, squared-off sausage, etc. Joined by the other guests in the dining room, this may well be the highlight of your day.
The Inn's #1 ambassador is Bentley, the owners' large and lovable pooch. He will be the first "person" to greet you on arrival and the last to say farewell. Never fear, he is quite a gentleman.
